James Simmons
Senior Counsel
Mr. Simmons has nearly 50 years of experience in engineering and in intellectual property law, including extensive experience both in-house and in private practice. His corporate IP experience covers all facets of intellectual property law, including patent portfolio creation and management. His in-house experience includes positions at Bausch and Lomb and Crucible Steel, as well as a 25-year tenure at Air Products and Chemicals. Prior to joining Design IP, Mr. Simmons worked in private practice for over a decade at a mid-sized IP law firm.
Mr. Simmons has represented IP clients in the fields of metallurgy, inorganic chemistry, optics, medical products, welding, thermodynamics and complex mechanical devices. He was a practicing metallurgical engineer before beginning his law career.
Mr. Simmons is also an active member of American Intellectual Property Law Association and is a former Secretary of the Association. He is an active alumnus of Lehigh University, having recently served on the oversight committee for the University’s engineering minor program.
